I woke this morning with a song on my lips. In the face of hard news about a world where women in particular continue to be subject to horrific abuse, this song is bringing me courage today.

After I’d woken singing this, a wise, older female friend messaged me a prayer of thanks for the saints who’ve gone before us to make a way of love – a path for us to follow. It is All Saints’ Day today (1st November), which is a day for giving thanks for the saints who’ve gone before us. Today I am thinking of women who have gone before me, facing unimaginable prejudice and ignorance and being subjected to all kinds of horrors and yet somehow still finding the path of light and love and walking it. I give thanks for those in my own family who found a way and for my friends and those who I have heard of, as well as the women from ancient times the song above speaks of.

Praying for all women today struggling to find the courage and self belief and energy to rise again from their struggles. May they stand firm on the shoulders of all those who have gone before, arms linked with all of us who are in solidarity with one another across the world.
